Ibadan, Nigeria – Tragedy was narrowly averted on Tuesday afternoon following a tanker explosion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, around the Muslim area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to eyewitness accounts, an articulated tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and veered off the road, eventually toppling and erupting in flames.
The swift response of the Oyo State Fire Service was instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby residential buildings. Emergency responders acted promptly, containing the inferno before it could cause further destruction.
Residents of the area, who were initially thrown into panic, heaved a sigh of relief as it was confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.
Authorities have urged motorists, especially those operating heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise extreme caution while navigating highways, particularly during the rainy season when roads become more hazardous.
